Prevalence of chronic physical diseases in obese women
Abstract
Background and objectves: Obesty s accepted as ndependent rsk factors for many dseases In ths context, ths study was conducted to determne the prevalence of chronc physcal dseases n obese women. Methods: The sample of ths descrptve and cross-sectonally study conssted of 108 women patents who hosptalzed wth a chronc physcal dseases n a unversty's publc hosptal, BMI was 30≥ kg/m2, had a suffcent cogntve level and agreed to partcpate n the study were ncluded n the study sample. Data were obtaned usng patent dentfcaton form. The data were nterpreted n the SPSS 22.0 package program. In dstrbuton of demographc and dsease related characterstcs of women, mean, standard devaton and percentage dstrbuton were used. Results: The average age of obese women s 62.27±12.10, 49.1% of them are llterate, 65.7% are marred. 6.5% of women are currently smokng. 47.2% of obese women have two or more chronc physcal dseases. When chronc physcal dsease dstrbuton n obese women was examned, t was determned that 31.2% had dabetes, 28.1% had hypertenson and 17.2% had asthma. It was determned that 8.4% of the partcpants dd not use the treatment regularly. Concluson: Obesty s accompaned by many chronc physcal dseases such as dabetes, hypertenson and asthma. It s necessary to evaluate women for obesty, to rase awareness for obesty, to create supportve ndvdual programs for obese women to lose weght, and to montor obesty n order to prevent morbdty and mortalty related to chronc physcal dseases.
